Ranchers Stand Against RFID Mandates; Relief Efforts Mobilize in Southern States
October 5, 2024 — Beef News
Rapid City, SD – On October 7th, 2024, two of the nation’s largest cattle organizations, the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association and R-CALF USA, will come together at the Livestock Producers Freedom Rally to oppose the USDA’s new rule mandating Electronic Identification (RFID) for interstate cattle movement. The rally, taking place at the Best Western Ramkota Convention Center in Rapid City, South Dakota, starts at 10 a.m. MDT. The Beef Initiative and Breeauna Sagdal will be there to support this significant cause.
The USDA’s new rule requires RFID tags for sexually intact cattle over 18 months old moving across state lines, with the intent to improve traceability for foodborne illnesses. However, many ranchers argue that the decision to implement RFID tags should remain voluntary, with concerns over privacy and government overreach. The event organizers are seeking sponsors to support the rally with donations of $250, $500, or $1,000.
Relief Efforts in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia

Meanwhile, The I Am Texas Slim Foundation, along with FAFO Farms, is leading a coordinated relief response for ranchers and communities affected by recent disasters in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. Bitcoin donations are being used to support local groups, with urgent requests for horse and cattle feed. Ranchers from Pennsylvania, Mennonites, and other groups are coming together to provide much-needed assistance. Relief supplies are being distributed from locations such as the WNC Livestock Center in Canton, NC, as well as solar energizers and temporary fencing for farms in impacted areas.
“We’re witnessing firsthand how ranchers are stepping up when traditional government assistance is falling short,” said a representative from FAFO Farms. “Ranchers are not only helping each other but ensuring their communities stay resilient.”
